The New Moon in Taurus reminds us that to build anything, we need stamina in both body and mind. Now is the time to harness inner strength. Are you ready to embrace some earthy Taurean power?
How to welcome the New Moon in Taurus: A time to ground, grow and build inner strength
May 16th | PDT 13:01 | EDT 16:01 | BST 21:01
The New Moon in Taurus marks the beginning of a powerful lunar cycle and asks us to tune into our felt sense of intuition and inner power. After the Full Moon in Scorpio, which taught us about letting go to bloom, this New Moon asks us to understand how we can strengthen and harness our energy. Sound interesting? Let’s dig a little deeper…
In this blog, we’ll explore:
- What the Taurus New Moon symbolises
- Ways to ground yourself with this New Moon, including prompts for working with your journal
- Key dates for this lunar cycle
Ruled by Venus, the earth sign of Taurus is deeply in touch with the senses, asking us to be present and connect to what grounds us. Depicted by the bull in astrology, this sign focuses on the practical and symbolises stamina, determination, and the strength to build solid, prosperous foundations. A deep connection to nature and our place in the natural world gives Taurus a slow and steady rhythmic energy. If you have been overthinking or procrastinating, the sensuality of Taurus can help you get out of your head and tune back into your body.

The New Moon in Taurus
The Moon is said to be ‘exalted’ when she is in earthy Taurus, meaning she is especially at home in this abundant landscape, encouraging us to slow down and smell the roses. May’s New Moon, however, does have a sharp edge - not least because it’s aligned with the fixed star Algol, which has something of a fierce reputation.
The Greek mythology behind this fixed star is tragically intense, but from another perspective - and one I like - suggested by Astrologer Tanaaz, it can also symbolise a deeply transformational, protective, awakened energy. We can think of Algol’s influence at this New Moon as an opportunity to recognise our innate ability to embrace change and step into our personal power.

Mindful Communication
Mercury is also in the energetic mix at this New Moon, adding depth to our communication with others and giving us the ability to look at things from a fresh perspective. When delivered from a thoughtful, grounded place - there is true potential for healing through words and action.
This is the first New Moon since Uranus moved into Gemini, and you may find yourself reflecting on where things are shifting in your life. As you do this, slow down and pay attention to how your body feels. Our felt sense of intuition is always giving us messages; we just need to create space to listen.
Five gentle ways to ground yourself with the New Moon in Taurus:
- Walk barefoot on the earth: Find a soft patch of grass, slip off your shoes, and feel your feet on the ground. Take a few slow, steady breaths and notice the quiet support of the earth holding you. Let yourself feel rooted in the present moment.
- Reconnect with your senses: Taurus invites us to slow down and fully experience life through the senses. Light a candle, prepare a comforting meal, listen to music you love, or spend time with someone who feels like home. Let simple pleasures bring you back to yourself.
- Create a restorative bathing ritual: A bath can be a beautiful way to mark the beginning of a new lunar cycle; washing away what feels heavy and making space for what feels nourishing. Add oils, salts, candles, or anything that brings a sense of comfort and luxury.
- Plant seeds with intention: Spend some time with your hands in the soil and plant seeds that you can tend to over time. As you do, reflect on what you’d like to cultivate in your own life during this New Moon. What you nurture now - both in the earth and within yourself - has space to grow.
- Crunch some numbers: It may not feel glamourous, but tending to your resources can be a powerful act of self-respect and a way to create long-term stability. Take some time to review your finances, organise your accounts, or set practical goals around money.
