The Pink Moon ~ How to work with April’s Full Moon in Libra

April 1st | PDT 19:11 | EDT 22:11 | April 2nd BST 03:11

The Full Moon that illuminates our April lunar cycle signals that nature is coming back to life. Known as the Pink Moon, it is thought to be originally named after a wildflower native to parts of North America that blooms in early spring, rather than its actual colour. This cycle, the Pink Moon appears in the sign of Libra, bringing us back to our heart centre and reminding us to cultivate balance in our lives. Let’s explore this Moon together…

In this blog, we’ll unpack:

The symbolism of the sign of Libra

The air sign of Libra is ruled by Venus, the planet of love and relationships. While it also embraces other Venusian themes such as creativity, art, beauty and truth, it is this sign, above all others, that seeks connection and requires an equal give and take. This “weighing up,” if you like, is a kind of evaluation that Libra specialises in - a clear sense of balance in interactions is key. When the Moon is in Libra, she seeks harmony in her relationships; there is a need to feel emotionally even and for fairness to prevail. Under a Libran Full Moon (created by the Moon in Libra and the Sun in Aries), we are working with this need while also holding our own desires, symbolised by the self-directed Aries Sun on the opposite side of the heavens.

This is about ‘we’ as well as ‘me’

Our Libran Full Moon this month is in opposition not only to the Sun, but also to Saturn and Neptune in Aries. The build-up of planets across fiery independent Aries has been stealing the show of late, but our Libra Moon shines back from across the heavens, illuminating relationships and how we move through life with others - not just blazing our own trail. We are reminded under this Moon that we do not have to face everything alone. We can lean on others, but relationships also require compromise, consideration and balance, lead by our hearts and what we truly value.

Jupiterian beams

With highly charged energy from Jupiter in Cancer, emotional insight is strong under this Moon. If you feel that your heart connections need extra attention, or that something is becoming clearer around this time, pay attention. Whatever is illuminated now may help you rebalance dynamics. And while this may feel challenging for some, it is often how our relationships evolve for the better.

Ways to work with the Full Moon in Libra:

  • Arrange a day with loved ones (or with yourself!): Which relationships need some special attention now? Spend time with your VIPs to strengthen connections or show yourself some love and do something that fills your own cup.
  • Add a rose quartz or pink candle to your altar: If you feel called to tune into this Full Moon by adorning your altar or sacred space with a Libra or Venus-inspired theme, think pink - a colour associated with the sign. (Fresh flowers beautifully capture Libra’s energy too).
  • Host a circle to honour Venus: Who are your most precious connections? Perhaps you can gather under the light of the Full Moon to celebrate Venusian energy with your friends and soul sisters.
  • Bring in some creativity: What creative activity would you like to do simply for the pleasure of it? Perhaps it’s writing, painting, dancing, or visiting somewhere that inspires you - follow that thread.
  • Work with release to find balance: Where do you need to release pressure in your relationships that tends to tip the scales? Notice where you might be people-pleasing or over-giving, or, on the flip side, becoming too self-focused. What can you let go of to restore balance?

If you’d like to explore journalling with this Full Moon, here are some prompts to guide you. Or, if you’d like an image to inspire you, Hayley’s Pink Moon Poppies are stunning.

Journal prompts for working with the Full Moon in Libra:

  • Where in my relationships might I be seeking a better sense of balance, and what would that look like in practice?
  • What does creativity truly mean to me, beyond expectations or definitions from others?
  • How comfortable am I with asking for help and support, and what might be holding me back?

Wishing you a gorgeous Full Moon, fellow stargazer - and a beautiful wedding day to the founders of Moon Phase Studios, Hayley and Matt. What a wonderful moon to get wed under! May she shine clear and bright for us all.
